1) PS EUROSTARS Project: A computer tool for efficient irrigation management
PARTNER REQUEST

BBS Ref : 10-09-PS-irrigation

Title : Urgent: PS EUROSTARS Project: A computer tool for efficient
irrigation management

ABSTRACT:
A Spanish company has written a EUROSTARS proposal in order to develop a
user-friendly computer application, suggesting more efficient irrigation
schedules. These schedules should be adapted to local soil properties and
actual evapotranspiration values. The project has already partners from
Italy, Greece and Cyprus, but they would like to include some other
partners from Portugal and France. The new partners should be SME's.
Urgent answer is requested since call deadline is on September 30th.

DESCRIPTION:
A Spanish company has written a EUROSTARS proposal in order to develop a
user-friendly computer application, suggesting more efficient irrigation
schedules. These schedules should be adapted to local soil properties and
actual evapotranspiration values.

The European R&D results regarding irrigation could mean a significant
improvement of water-use efficiency. An important contribution regards the
use of soil moisture sensors, wireless data transfer and other technology
aimed to automatic irrigation. However, most of those research results are
still not enough applied, neither disseminated.

As result of the R&D efforts, there are tools to help farmers to manage
irrigation in an efficient way. Such tools are good enough already to
provide irrigation recommendations to unprepared farmers, if they are
developed in a friendly environment. Accordingly, this project is aimed to
develop a computer application to suggest optimum irrigation schedules,
based on soil properties and actual evapotranspiration values, that would
increase water use efficiency and energy savings.

The application will have personalized databases of soil properties and
crops coefficients, measured previously. Simulation models will be used to
estimate the optimal irrigation timing. Models must be calibrated and
validated in the field. The application will include cost-benefit analysis
of several irrigation strategies, including deficit-irrigation, taking
into account energy and water costs, as well as other inputs. The
simulations will be validated comparing moisture-sensors measurements with
the model results. The differences between simulations and sensor
measurements will be corrected automatically. The computer application
will be developed and tested in particular farms of Spain, Italy, Greece,
Cyprus, Portugal and France considering the farmer opinions at each case.

The project is already defined, and it has already partners from Italy,
Greece and Cyprus, but they would like to include some other SME partners
from Portugal and France.

Urgent answer is requested since call deadline is on September 30th.

2)  SME specialists in pharmacokinetics of drugs for cancer treatment - FP7-HEALTH-2011 two-stage, Topic HEALTH-2011.1.1-2

PARTNER REQUEST

BBS Ref : 10 AT 0111 3IM3

Title : SME specialists in pharmacokinetics of drugs for cancer
treatment - FP7-HEALTH-2011 two-stage, Topic HEALTH-2011.1.1-2

ABSTRACT:
The Department of Operative Medicine of an Austrian Medical University is
leading an FP 7 experienced consortium submitting a proposal in the FP 7
HEALTH 2011 call (2011.1.1-2). The proposal is related to the development
of exhaled breath diagnostics for effective stratification of responders
from non-responders in personalised medicine. SMEs with expertise in
pharmacokinetics of drugs for cancer treatment are invited to become
partners in a medium-scale focused research collaborative project.

DESCRIPTION:
The aim of the project is to reduce adverse drug effects by combining
exhaled breath tests with pharmacogenomic strategies.

The project will focus on genetic deficiencies for drug metabolisation
with the development of (exhaled) breath-based tests using
isotopically-labelled precursor compounds. Only stable isotopes (such as
13C, 18O and 15N) will be considered.

These breath-based tests will predict responses to drug treatment, avoid
chronicity, prevent relapse and reduce adverse effects. The breath-based
tests will allow determining the phenotype of persons to be determined and
will complement genetic testing.

For breath analysis the following analytical techniques will be used:
PTR-TOF, GC-MS, IRMS and photo ionization mass spectrometry

It is expected that new approaches, substances, compounds, and/or
organisms will result from this medium-scale focused research
collaborative project (project budget 6 M Euros). Scientific exchange and
other valuable future co-operations may also be feasible

Title : HEALTH.2011.2.3.1-4 - Novel colometric diagnostic platform for
screening of antibiotic resistance of bacteria

ABSTRACT:
A German University is going to submit a proposal under the call:
HEALTH.2011.2.3.1-4. Aim is the development of a new simple and
inexpensive diagnostic platform for detection and screening of bacteria
and their antibiotic resistance.
The consortium is still looking for SME partners interested in research
and development of antibiotics or in the development of platforms for
screening antibiotic resitance of bacteria.

DESCRIPTION:
The bacterial resistivity/susceptibility screening platform to propose
will be a polymer/gel construct that will allow screening antibiotic
resistance/susceptibility of bacteria through visible color changes.
The new diagnostic platform based upon a biomimetic sensing system
comprising a chromatic polymer reporter and lipid scaffolding displays
high sensitivity and specificity combined with easy application by
non-experts which allows bedside determination  and diagnosis of
antibiotic resistance. (Silbert et al., 2006, Appl.Environ. Microbiol.
7339-7344).
