Dear Colleague,

Re. FNMA'2010: www.auxetic.info  - www.fnma10.gda.pl

On the behalf of the FNMA'2010 Scientific Committee, it is my pleasure to invite you to present a paper and participate in the 7th International Workshop on Functional and Nanostructured Materials (FNMA'2010) which this year will be hosted in Malta between 16 - 20th July 2010. This meeting (further details on www.fnma10.gda.pl) brings together scientist and engineers working in the broad fields of functional and/or nanostructed materials to present and discuss their recent experimental / modelling work. It also provides an excellent space for informal discussion.

The meeting typically attracts papers in areas such photonic and optoelectronic materials, magnetic materials and diluted magnetic semiconductors, catalytic materials, nanoparticle materials and nanolithography, nanobiotechnology, physics and technology of nanostructured semiconductors and  superconductors, metamaterials (including auxetic materials, negative refractive index materials, etc.), tin and thick films, organic, hybrid and composite materials, MEMS/NEMS technology and applications, physics and technology of carbon nanotubes and carbon-based materials and industrial applications of nanotechnology. In view of the increased attention that is now being given to Health & Safety issues in relation to nanotechnology, the Scientific Committee has included a special session on this topic in this year's meeting.

The proceedings of this series of workshops are typically published in good international peer-reviewed journals (e.g. Journal of Non Crystalline Solids, published by Elsevier.)

The nature of the workshop also provides an excellent networking opportunity where scientist and engineers working in this field can discuss issues relating to their work in an informal environment. In fact, this meeting is envisaged to include a Round Table Meeting intended to promote cooperation and preparation of cooperative projects, as well as applications for their funding at national and international levels. The meetings will involve industrial partners in directing research towards major practical problems in applications of advanced innovative technologies and facilitating industrial applications of research results.

Please note that July is high tourist season in Malta, so we urge you to register as soon as possible to guarantee yourself free accommodation that comes with the very moderate registration fee. The registration form is on https://www.fis.com.mt/auxetics/auxetics2010_registrations.html.

You may also be interested to know that the University of Malta is also hosting 3rd International Conference / 7th International Workshop on Auxetics & Related Systems and the 5th International Symposium on Trends in Continuum Physics (TRECOP'2010) in the same period. Further details on www.auxetic.info

Please do not hesitate to contact us on auxetic@um.edu.mt should you require any further information.

Best regards,

Joseph Grima
