<Deadline: 12/06/2008>
<Programme: E-Content>
<Project Title: ONLINE RESOURCE CENTRE FOR INTERCULTURAL BUSINESS COMPETENCE>
<Financial Scheme: E-CONTENT - Target project>
<Description: Europe has become a highly complex unity, where each culture has its own unique set of rules. Being aware of the
diverse cultural features is of both public and private interest. Developing intercultural competence is inevitable to feel
and behave as a European Citizen and, from the business point of view, to identify with customers in a common
European market.
Following the increasing demand, a great number of digital educational content has been produced related to
intercultural issues. However, the many separated digital content resources that exist on the market cannot be "found" or
accessed easily, or only with certain language or cultural backgrounds. Furthermore there is a high rate of redundant and
low quality documents.
This project therefore aims to create a reliable, extensive and transparent multilingual content share point collecting high
quality digital contents in the fields of
- Basic Intercultural Competence & Communication ('Take a virtual familiarisation trip in Europe')
-Intercultural Competence focusing on Business Manners (critical incidents in intercultural business)
- Code of Conduct in International Business
- Country specific information
The shared resources and efforts of this project makes it possible to establish an objective European wide intercultural
competence centre which enables access to digital content resources from the viewpoints of different multicultural
backgrounds, ethical standards, and languages. We involve the most adequate European digital content and
organisations specialised in intercultural education by integrating their approved content resources and/or external
repositories.
Expected results
Getting closer to the Lisbon objective of becoming a knowledge based Europe: offering a broad and clear overview of the reliable, topic related digital content will raise the attention of the users and thus the usage of these resources throughout
Europe.
A consistent transmission process will generate a multilingual content share point and easier access to proper digital
material stemming from open educational resources, commercial repositories and individual experts.
A classification will create a reference framework for existing and future topic related content resources and repositories,
with respect to quality, applicability, and significance to economic and ethical standards. By benchmarking, clustering
and meta-tagging the projects ensures access to digital content resources from the viewpoints of different multicultural
backgrounds, ethical standards, and languages.
Valuable knowledge exchange and synergies between stakeholders during and beyond the project creating an online
community of experts.
The project will also create business and licensing models to link the bridge between content producers and target
groups as well as to demonstrate the sustainable feasibility of the digital resource centre.>
