SELF-REGULATED LEARNING STRATEGIES FOR SCIENCE.
Considering that the process of learning science and mathematics are
of major importance in terms of the Programme for International
Student Assessment (PISA) and of the Third International Mathematics
and Science Study (TIMSS), we, in CIES-ISCTE (Centre for Research and
Studies in Sociology - www.cies.iscte.pt), have decided to organize a
Portuguese team of interdisciplinary researchers to study the process
of learning science among our students, specifically considering their
self-regulated learning strategies for science (from books, videos and
films, like BBC Wild Life, National Geographic, etc., CD-ROM,
Internet, etc.). In order to achieve our goals we'll work with a
representative sample of schools from Lisbon;
Afterwards, we want to compare these self-regulated learning
strategies of our students with the correspondent self-regulated
learning strategies of the students from other OECD countries like,
for instance, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, England, and so on;
Consequently, we want to establish an international network of
researchers to join the already existing methodological approach and
to propose knew approaches, considering the specificity of their own
countries, to change experiences, etc.
