Project description
Our aim is to use agricultural-based waste from grape wineries and from olive oil mills and turn it into bioproducts using novel microorganisms and chemical technologies. The economic burden of the waste associated with the wine and oil industries in Europe in general, and in particular in the Mediterranean countries is enormous and these industries exploit only part of the health, nutritional and
agricultural potential of this waste. We plan to fully exploit the waste As it is, and to extract from it antioxidants and flavanoids; and  to introduce microorganisms of choice in order to convert the waste into valuable product such as novel antibiotic and enzyme biosynthesis; mushrooms production; fertilizers and humus for
agricultural purposes; to turn it into feed for animals.
